George Dureau:
New Orleans Artist

//documentary feature//

George Dureau: New Orleans Artist explores the life and career of one of the city’s icons, painter and photographer George Dureau (1930-2014). In his photographs and paintings Dureau captured the marginalized; in his life he embodied the city of New Orleans: generous, talented, and messy.

Featuring rarely seen archival materials, contemporary interviews, and an original score by composer Oscar Rossignoli, George Dureau: New Orleans Artist tells the story of a New Orleans that no longer exists.

We began researching this film in 2017 and premiered it at the 2023 New Orleans Film Festival.
